A soccer academy was established in 2008 as an innovative approach to reach young people at risk and increase the effectiveness of the youth program interventions’. Soccer was adopted as a good avenue of promoting respect for diversity, tolerance, non- discrimination and promote solidarity among young people. The academy was founded with an aim of engaging young people in a fun and relaxed atmosphere where they can exercise, develop on their talent/skill alongside addressing barriers they face in their day to day life. The NFSC academy has grown to 90 boys and girls’ who play soccer up to regional level, educate fellow young people on key issues like positive living, life skills, sports for life and peer mentor. The academy has over time won trophies and received numerous certificates.
